“This piece is a reminder to give with love, to create HOPE for those around us.  To live a life committed to things external of ourselves”.

Painting inspired by Kerry Atherton:

Kerrie is a colourful soul and it was essential to me to represent her bright energy.  Kerrie is also deeply connected to her past, and that of her mother.  The near death experiences of her own and her Mums, were a significant inspiration behind this piece.  The small centre door represents the doorway to her previous life of addiction and fear, the figure is Kerrie observing her own overdose, yet knowing she has the strength to walk away from something that did not serve her any longer.  The light that surrounds her represents her faith, and her willingness to be the beacon of hope for others.  The placement of Kerrie in a garden path represents new beginnings and that she walked the path her Mum did, and created a new way.  During Kerrie's interview she mentioned many times walking through different doors - that she always opened, even thought she was not sure what it would lead to.  How they always took her to a new opportunity and new beginning.  The doors in this piece represent this, and how important it is to take a step forward and open up to what is there.  Kerry is the light of hope that people need, and it is a testament to her strength that she continues to hold space for others, sharing her story and theirs through her business.

Is Hope not Faith?
Faith there is a
new beginning.
Faith there is a
better way?

Is Hope not strength?
To reconnect with oneself.
To walk through the doors of the unknown,
exposing all
my cracks and my pain,
so that I many transform.

Is it hope that encouraged me
back to my lifeless body,
propelling me forward to
begin anew.

Or is hope believing
in that spark of light within,
always present,
even in the darkest of days.

Patiently waiting to be ignited,
knowing...

You are the light you need
to move forward.
You are the catalyst that inspires
positivity and change.
