Painting inspired by Yas Matbouly:

Yas felt to me like a well of humble strength and clarity.  With a life full of interesting, almost 'out of this world' experience, what I saw most in Yas is someone who holds the welfare, the peace and the ability for others more important.   The love for his family is evident. Shown even in the name of the charity Serving Our People - Hope In Action (SOPHIA), which is his daughters name.  The newspapers in this piece represents his first big opportunity in Dubai - and his need to read them constantly to teach himself the language.  Yas's favourite place is way out in the ocean - where there is nothing else around, as it gives him a sense of insignificance and calm.  A stark contrast to his life.  The marble represents opulence and wealth, as does the Dolce & Gabanna symbol on the vase - also his first job.  The tulips were added as Yas's house is always full of them.  The use of white and black was to draw attention to his favourite colours, and as a reminder that through giving, through clarity and confidence, anything is possible.  Yas's heart and quiet strength shows in all he does and this painting holds these energies for me.

Colour Inspiration:

• White: clarity, purity, anything is possible, wholeness, opens the way, encouraging.  
• Grey: dignified, solid, composed, stable, give inner strength.
• Blue: trust, leadership, nurturing.
• Black: authority, luxury, confidence
